1. Allemagne

Wwoofing in Germany:

  • WWOOF Germany was founded in 1992

  • 2,833 WWOOFers in Germany 

  • Types of farms: Organic farms and gardens, 533 ecological farms, lodges 

  • Activities: Knowledge sharing on sustainable land management

Some general information:

  • Capital: Berlin

  • Population: 83.24 million inhabitants

  • Climate: moderately continental with cold winters and hot summers

  • Currency and official language: German is the only official language and the currency used is the euro.

  • What to do? : Cultural visits, of cities, Bavaria with the black forest and the castles, the banks of the Rhine, many museums.

  • Main cities: Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg

2. Belgique

  • WWoof Belgium: Managed by volunteers (non-profit association)

  • Activities: Discovery of organic farming techniques, Support for local peasant agriculture, Manual assistance during periods of greatest activity, Contribution to the development of Belgian food sovereignty

Some general information:

​

  • Capital: Brussels 

  • Population: 11.56 million inhabitants

  • Climate: temperate oceanic

  • Currency and official language: Dutch in the north, French in the south and German in the east, the currency used is the euro.

  • What to do? : Belgium is full of magnificent cities to visit: Bruges, Brussels and Antwerp are among them. There are also many circuits for mountain biking, and excursions to visit its castles. 

3. France

  • Wwoof France: Launched in 2007 (by a city dweller who had experienced wwoofing abroad and wanted to set up in France with his wife), 17,000 members, hosts and wwoofers combined, a team of 4 people, from many volunteers. 

  • Activities: Organic farming, Contributions aimed at running the network and supporting agroecological projects

Some general information:

  • Capital: Paris

  • Population: 67.39 million inhabitants 

  • Climate: very varied, oceanic, degraded oceanic, semi continental, mountain, and Mediterranean. 

  • Currency and official language: French is spoken and the currency used is the euro. 

  • What to do? : Due to its varied landscapes and climate, there are a lot of activities to do in France: the Alps, the Ardèche gorges, the Chaîne des Puys, Auvergne, the Ballons des Vosges regional natural park, the Abers country.

  • Cities: Besançon, Baume-les-Messieurs, Hyères, Saint-Malo, Paris, Le Havre, Rouen ...

4. Irlande

Wwoofing in Ireland:

 

  • Hosts: 143 farms that are part of the Wwoof Ireland organization, founded in 2009.

  • Types of farms: Organic, family and communal farms with animals and agricultural products.

  • Activities: Food and craft production, harvests and maintenance of plantations, contact with animals.

 

Some general information:

 

  • Capital: Dublin

  • Population: 4.991 million inhabitants

  • Climate: cool and oceanic, cloudy and rainy all year round. The temperatures do not vary greatly.

  • Currency and official language: the currency used is the euro and the official languages are English and Irish.

  • What to do ? : Connemara National Park, Cliffs of Moher, County Kerry (Ring of Kerry, Ross Castle), Dingle Peninsula, Skellig Michael (housed the Star Wars film set), Rock of Cashel, Coumshingaun Lough, Slieve League ( second highest cliff in Europe).

5. Luxembourg

Wwoofing in Luxembourg:

  • Hosts: self-employed who do not belong to a national organization

  • Types of farms: Hobby farms, Family farms, No use of chemicals (pesticides, herbicides)

  • Activities: Food production, Artisanal production

Some general information:

​

  • Capital: Luxembourg

  • Population: 634,730 inhabitants

  • Climate: moderately western with a cold winter and mild and fairly rainy summers. 

  • Currency and official language: Luxembourgish, French and German are spoken there, the currency used is the euro.

  • What to do? : Lots of natural activities to do, American military cemetery in Luxembourg-Hamm, museums, castles.

6. Suisse

  • Types of farms: 126  organic host farms in Switzerland, Family farms, Breeding farms, Mixed farms

  • Activities: Animal sitting, Permaculture

Some general information:  

​

  • Capital: Zurich

  • Population: 8.63 million inhabitants

  • Climate: moderately continental on the plateau, alpine in the mountains and milder, almost Mediterranean in the canton of Ticino.

  • Currency and official languages: The official languages are German, Italian, French and Romansh, the currency used is the Swiss franc. 

  • What to do? : Swiss Alps, visit to chocolate factories (Lindt for example), Olympic museum, lakes, Zurich, Lucerne, Geneva and Interlaken.
